As a young man Mandela was an advocate for peace in his country. He worked hard with many different organizations to bring peace to his nation. He was a major influence in the formation of uMkhonto we Sizwe. This organization was a military based program to rebell against the government. Mandela had no prior military training, although believed in the cause. As Mandela was already under scrutiny from his nation for inciting movements and striving for change in his community. This helped many people get behind what Mandela was promoting with the uMkhonto we Sizwe. Although violence was not Mandela's first chose he knew that this sabotage of many government buildings and activities. Although he was not in the movement directly his passion thrived. Many people on the outside kept his ideas and power alive. During his imprisonment he wrote to many white supremacist leaders and encouraged peace amongst the nation. He fought for this national peace through his time in prison. Contacting these officials let him negotiate the release of political prisoners. He was able to peacefully gain his freedom and continued this strive for peace the rest of his life.
