is still used today in all different frequencies. He had also thought of a way to create free and limitless power for everyone. He had also indirectly discovered the form of invisible light, the X-ray, which is still used today and has helped society with many discoveries ahead of it. He had also discovered earth’s natural magnetic frequency and how he can use that magnetic field to generate electricity that he would use for his idea of a free and limitless alternating current electricity. Also, he had invented the laser that is used, not only for medical uses, but also for the lethal uses of it which would involve using them as weapons. These are some of the ways that Tesla’s work had changed the development of alternating current and what some of the inventions that he had invented and how they had changed the world. One of the most important inventions that Nikola Tesla had invented that had affected AC was by redesigning the AC motor that much more feasible to large companies in his time and even more now in our time.
How this affected AC was that many more people now started to use AC because they had now figured out that it was a lot safer for everyone involved and was much easier to use than DC. What the AC motor did was it provided much more torque in large equipment and also much more speed for these motors. What this had later caused to be invented was the creation of the conveyor belt and vacuum pumps that were used to pump water and the conveyor belt helped move large items that would take a lot longer to move with a crane or even by hand. This eventually led to a more refined assembly line system that improved how fast cars could be made and allowed for cars to be a lot cheaper and more available to the public. Some ways that the AC motor is still used today is in the form of small electronics and also in robots that, even better refine the assembly line system to this date. Also the creation of this motor showed to the public that AC is safe and that people should not be scared of it, because it cannot cause as much harm as Thomas Edison had displayed doing. That is how the AC motor had helped the advancement of the form of electricity known as Alternating …show more content…
Current. Another advancement that Tesla had made in the advancement of AC was the deal that he got with George Westinghouse. This deal that he had received was to build the power system at the Niagara Falls Power Plant. This can be seen from a quote by him stating; “The harness of waterfalls is the most economical method known for drawing energy from the sun.”This had helped the development of AC because it showed the public what AC could do and why it was a much better choice for the American people, and the world that had later adopted it after the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair that had shown the world how good AC power truly was and still is to this date. Another quote to state why his project was so important to him and the development of AC was “The evolution of electric power from the discovery of Faraday in 1831 to the initial great installation of the Tesla polyphase system in 1896 [at Niagara Falls] is undoubtedly the most tremendous event in all engineering history”. What this Niagara Falls job had taught both Westinghouse and Tesla was that AC power was going to be known and used a lot more in the world ahead. This Niagara Falls job also gave Tesla the loan that he needed later in life to attempt to create limitless free energy, though his plans had eventually failed when he could not complete that project on time and had caused the government to tear down his tower and break apart his building that would have supplied free limitless wireless energy to everyone in the world. Though this goal was far fetched, he had tested it in small scale and it had worked perfectly fine. Some companies to this day are still trying to figure out wireless electricity, though the most that they have ever succeeded in was 55 meters away. That is how the Niagara Falls deal with Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse had changed the later development of AC. Another major discovery that not only helped the development of AC but also had helped the medical and scientific world was the discovery of the X-ray, that was done by Tesla and Mark Twain. How the X-ray machine helps us to this day is that it allows us to look through the skin and then muscle of a human being without actually cutting into them. How this helps the scientific world was that it allowed scientists to better understand the human anatomy and how damage from the environment can affect it. Another advantage of the X-ray was the use of it for safety in our day to day. It is used in safety by using it in airports that scan the human body, through the clothing to see if there are any foreign objects in there that aren’t supposed to be there. For example: some weapons can be hidden and only be found by X-ray machines that display the objects in a better way. Another use in airports is for foreign objects like illegal drugs that are smuggled into the country, that can cause a lot more violence in large cities where these drugs were brought than was first intended. These are some of the uses for the X-ray. Although his achievements can be seen dramatically across the world, and not only in the states, the development of his AC current has changed the worlds in inventions that he was not directly related to such as the electromagnet. What this invention that is related to him, but not invented by him does is, it creates a magnetic field, such as a magnet, but with this magnet you could turn off the magnetic field whenever electricity has stopped flowing. What this magnet allows people to do is use it in any place where a stationary magnet would be too troublesome. Some uses of the electromagnet are the use in Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine that allows doctors and other people to look inside the body without actually cutting it open and without giving the patient a high amount of highly deadly gamma rays. These electromagnets are also used in particle accelerators that speed up particle to smash them into each and discover more scientific research about them. Those are some of the uses of the electromagnet and how they relate to Tesla and his development of AC power.
Another achievement that Tesla had succeeded in was the invention and use of remote control. This project was not really recognized at the time when it was created because people didn’t really understand how it worked and didn’t see the applications of it to work. Though this project was the beginning of radio waves, that we use today for mostly communication. Though this advancement helped with all new types of communication and data transfer today. To show that he knew what he was talking about, he got a radio transmission from space, that at the time people thought was impossible and didn’t believe him, though as later tested by more scientists that worked with radio waves, his discovery was revolutionary. He also made a remote control boat. This is another achievement that had got him recognized by the public and had helped with his ultimate development of alternating current.
Another achievement that Tesla had only succeeded with was only after his death and this was the death ray.
His idea of the death ray was used by the Soviet Union while he was still alive, though it was never successful because the death beam was only used for low range and the United States found out about it in the early days of it and the project could never really get off the ground, even though Tesla had been given a fund $250,000. This project got a lot more developed after his death because his work was apparently stolen from his apartment when he recorded to be dead and most of this research was taken by the United States government that had taken it without asking his relatives or anyone that was close to him. Though they eventually gave some of the papers back to his nephew that was living in Yugoslavia and are now kept in the Nikola Tesla Museum in Yugoslavia. That is now in the country of Serbia, though some of the most important papers were damaged and were stated as a shame to Tesla that his work was taken out of the United States of America because it was the place where he had thought of it and should be the place where they are kept. They used this research in their secret projects that they had many of during the Cold War because, it would help them be more advanced in the war and would show that the Soviet Union couldn’t actually win because the United States had more advanced technology. What they stole was used in a project called “Project Nick” which
was in theory a death beam that shot atomic particles at near light speed at a target and heated the target up until it had basically disintegrated. The government had tried this though, they eventually gave up on the project because they could only get the beam to work in low orbit and only to work for a distance of 200 miles, which would not be enough for them to shoot down Soviet missiles as they were coming in from Russia. Though what they had come up with eventually declassified and was allowed for the American people to see it and see what our money was being spent on. That is what the device of a death beam had helped the development of AC and the help of the government. Another project that he had invented that had succeeded immensely was the Tesla Coil which, turn low frequency voltage into a high frequency voltage that was at a voltage of around 20,000 volts from 120 volts. What this jump in voltage gave him was a better way to transfer electricity with less depreciation in voltage and power would allow the power companies to use this higher voltage to give to more people in an easier way. Though some of the ways that Tesla had used this coil was to transfer electricity through the air, which eventually came to the project of the Tesla tower that never really succeeded. Though as shown in this quote, this is how he viewed his project and how others would view it at the time: “My project was retarded by laws of nature. The world was not prepared for it. It was too far ahead of time. But the same laws will prevail in the end and make it a triumphal success”. He would use this for sending electricity through the ionosphere which was later tested and would work. Though his idea never succeeded when J.P Morgan stopped funding the project and it eventually died out. This is how the Tesla coil changed the development of AC. From all of these achievements that Tesla had succeeded at had changed the world of not only alternating current but also electricity in general. From the revision of the AC motor that had changed not only the efficiency of electric motors, but also the amount of uses for them, from the conveyor belt to vacuum pumps. Also a big event that changed the way people look at AC, which was the creation of the Niagara Falls Power Plant in Canada. Another invention that changed the way that we look at Tesla and AC was the creation of X-rays, that allowed doctors to look inside a patient’s body without having to cut them open. Another major discovery that he made was the Tesla coil that created a larger voltage to be transferred easier. His last major discovery was of magnetic fields and electromagnetism that today results in such inventions as, the MRI, particle accelerators that are both in use today. These are some of the discoveries and inventions that Tesla had invented and also how they changed the development of alternating current. The way that these discoveries and inventions changed the development of AC was that showed the world what AC can truly do and how it can help the world in that time but, also in the future of AC. This is why Nikola Tesla should be called the father of AC and why we should praise Tesla more than we do Thomas Edison today because, Thomas Edison did not invent the lightbulb he just refined it and, most of Edison’s inventions and discoveries were because of Nikola Tesla.
