Eco Reconstruction failed to give the freedman economic stability, the sharecropping system made it impossible to gain economic stability, it explains that when a farmer promises land and seeds to a worker in exchange for half of the produced crop. In this cycle the worker would need clothing and tools from the land owner, the landowner would sell it to them, and at the end of the season the worker would split the crop with the land owner and they would both sell the crop. Once both the land owner and the worker have sold the crop, the land owner would collect the money that the worker owes for the tools and the clothing, leading the worker into debt if the worker can't pay, they will work for another year. This loop means that the freedman will probably never stop working for the land owner, this system is just a loose definition of slavery without the harsh punishment. This restricted the freedman's political freedom because most had no formal education, but neither did the average Confederate.
