Paris was a nice enough man, but she really didn’t reciprocate the feelings he had towards her. When Juliet was in shambles about the wedding, she tried turning to the nurse, and her mother for comfort and advice, despite the fact that they just told her to marry Paris. Her father was also an advocate of her marriage to Paris and didn’t let her have a say in it. “Sir Paris, I will make a desperate tender of my child’s love,” Capulet tells Paris, “I think she will be ruled in all respects by me. Nay, more, I doubt it not…” ( 3. 4. 12). It was by means of her single-minded family and other close influences that her relationship with Romeo was prohibited. This shows how Romeo and Juliet relates to modern times because Juliet did something that was unheard of for Romeo. In present times people still do things to try to get someone they like to notice them, or get someone they love to love them too. “Give me, give me![The vial of potion] O, tell me not of fear!” ( 4. 1. 122). In Juliet’s eyes, it wasn't an act of poisoning herself to prove a point, it was taking a small risk to be able to spend the rest of her life with Romeo. Some examples of outrageous things people do for love in the present day would include moving, quitting their jobs, and giving up everything for their partner. Even today people kill themselves over failed relationships, in addition to the loss of a partner in a thriving relationship. Sometimes people make these decisions because they feel they won’t suffice alone, or be capable of having the same feelings
