How Did Syngman Rhee Make South Korea
Syngman Rhee was the first democratically elected president of South Korea. In the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s Rhee fought vicariously for the independence of South Korea. He created a Korean independence group which was later shut down by right-winged officials who later arrested Rhee. After spending time in prison Rhee moved to the states where he earned a PHD from Princeton, he then returned to Korea in 1910, the year it was annexed by Japan to continue his activist work. In his life he organized various protests against the corruption and influence of the Japanese and Russians. His fight proved successful and with South Korea officially becoming independent in 1948.
