The first way the Black Death helped the European economy was that it led to the fall of feudalism. Feudalism was a burden on the European economy’s growth because it made it where people were stuck in the social class that they were born into forever, but with the fall of feudalism people now were not locked into a certain social class. The ability that people gained to switch social classes was a great ability for people to have. One of the main reasons this change in social class was possible was because black plague …show more content…
killed so many people, making the demand for peasants higher which inevitably raised the income peasants received. This ability was great because people gained incentive to work harder and make more money because if they worked hard enough they could obtain a wealthier life style. Another positive effect of the ability to change between classes was there was an emergence of the middle class. The middle class was important because that meant the idea of there only being the wealthy and the poor was abolished, creating a more balanced society and lifestyle in Europe. In whole the end of feudalism had many profound positive effects on Europe and its economy, but most importantly it gave people more opportunities to obtain a better life.
Another important way the Black Death impacted the European economy was it eventually fueled the beginning of the Renaissance.
The Renaissance was a very positive time in Europe because “The Renaissance revealed to men another world, another state of existence; for such was the real significance, to the men of the revival, of the discovery of the civilization of classical antiquity.” This revival of Europe was key because it was a great age of learning, new art, and new education. The Black Death was the main reason this period of time even existed, without the Black Death Feudalism would have likely never have been abandoned and the great age in Europe that was the Renaissance would have never come about. The Renaissance was great because it reformed education in Europe which was important because Europe became much smarter and more intellectual, leading to more great and historic accomplishments. Without the Black Death the Renaissance would have likely never happened and Europe would not have experienced the fruitful results of all the new education and ideas that arose from the
Renaissance.
Overall the Black Death served as a spark plug for a total revival of the European lifestyle and economy. The fall of Feudalism and the rise of the Renaissance were both major events that were triggered by the Black Death. It is apparent that if you dig below the surface you see that the Black Death liberated Europe’s economy for the future.
