How Did The Economy Change Denmark-Norway's Economy
Denmark-Norway is a country that has gone from an absolute monarch and medieval ideas to a more Enlightened country over the course of 350 years. They improved in their government, economy, and science rapidly during the 1700s. They became more innovative and expanded on things they already knew to make their country more efficient. Denmark-Norway’s economy for example, has improved a lot over the 1700s to 1850. Their economy drastically declined during the Napoleonic Wars even though trade became better since the other armies would need their resources. But, once they stopped fighting they improved their farming methods and became much more innovative. They worked on farms, had animals, and cut down timber. After the Enlightenment spread to northern Europe everything started to get modernized and you can see evidence of things that they had then that we still have today; unlike France where they were reacting to the Enlightenment in a more radical way. The 1500s-1699 wasn’t as smooth though since people thought more in an outdated way and serfdom was still a problem. The king was mostly controlled by the upper class so the rich had all of the power in the nation. There were also wars going on at the time and the common people couldn’t supply for themselves and for a military so they started to live worse than before. During the 1500s and 1600s Denmark-Norway mainly exported grain and oxen and had some industries. They would cut down timber and fish to build their houses and to feed their families, any surplus would get sold. Things started to look up after the Napoleonic Wars when the economy went up due to the modernization of farming and agriculture.
