After industrialization during the 19th century American life was never the same. Political changes included the need for government involvement in a Laissez-faire type of government involvement in business as well as the emerging of new political parties. There were also social changes the most apparent being the increasing gap between the poor and wealthy in the factories. Economics also transformed into big business owners, poor workers and low earning farmers in southern rural areas. The American industrial revolution made major changes to both urban and rural areas in the aspects of political, social and economic life. Many political parties and platforms were a result of the industrial revolution. The Populist Party emerged because of the workers wanting more representation for their rights or the lack thereof. Because of factories workers were not being treated fairly and were forced to work in terrible conditions.
