I did some investigating on my own and found the factories down in the center of the city to be dirty and dangerous. You can smell the factories from 2 blocks away and visibility is very low once inside. I approached what looked like was the manager and asked if I could have a minute to talk with him, he obliged. I asked him what ages of people he had working in the factory. He said anywhere from 7-35. Now 7 year olds should not be working in the factories. I interviewed some of the kids when they finally got done and they talked about some of the grueling injuries that others have had. I had heard about the coal mines so I went to investigate myself. Coal is needed in place of wood and it helps make bricks, dyes, glass, and helps heat homes, so it’s very useful but comes at a price for the miners. The work in very dark, damp, and narrow tunnels. These tunnels can get up to 130 degrees. The workers are half naked working down there. Cave-ins were very common until 1810 when wooden props were made. Men, women, and children work in the tunnels digging the coal out by hand and dragging it up to the surface. The workers have to be careful of underground floods and suffocating from poisonous
