Irish citizens were started to sense a prohibition of their identity, vanishing of their own culture and religion. Lastly, the famine in Ireland started expanding in the mid 17th century because all the food was sending back to England. According to the documentary The Irish in America, it stated that all the plantations that the Irish where making was 4 times than any other country, but the potatoes will go straight to England causing half of the Irish population to end up starving. Due to all of these vast events Irish begin to experiences hatred among English and decided to immigrate to America in search of the land of freedom.
In 1829 and 1845 close to 20,000 Irish people came over to America, and by 1850 2 million travel to America continent because of the great famine in Ireland.
The Irish people didn’t know how long the voyage would take or where they will end up, however they were certain that it will be a country with liberty. When the Irish arrived to America they experiences significant discrimination. They where called undefined, leprechaun and monkey faces. They where also lived in slum areas where sanitation and health was minimum. However, that didn’t let them give up. In fact there’s no doubt that Irish helped stirred America history, bringing fresh ideas on the economy, politics and fighters to achieve America freedom. For instance, The Jackson Family or the Kennedys are true families that show that Irish immigrants brought new ideas and shaped America. Andrew Jackson was a soldier, who fought in New Orleans to defeat the British colonies and obtain freedom to America for it, then he became president who helped Irish immigrants and to get them new opportunities, and he achieved the western expansion. There’s no doubt that Irish help built America by fighting as soldiers among other to achieve freedom, Irish became true patriots for this land because they were so grateful to have the opportunity that back in Ireland was taken away from them,
