The French had similar motivations to the Spanish, but what pushed them was how successful the Spanish were in reaching their goals and building an empire. " Spanish successes in the Caribbean attracted the attention of other European nations" (Page 47), such
as France. The French wanted to set up trade routes and get gold. They did all of those things and even set up an alliance. "The French made an alliance with the Hurons and Algonquins” (Page 46). This alliance gave them good trades, which contributed to gold and trustworthy allies.
The English wanted to get gold, spread culture and explore a new land. The English did not have as much luck as the Spanish and French, considering they did not make much gold and did not gain much from exploring the new land. "The English saw the colony as a source of raw materials and a market for English goods.". The English did not find many raw materials and they were overall not very successful.
