The Viking era in Ireland is commonly divided into two periods. The first period beginning in 795 Ad and ending by the mid ninth century, the second period ranged from around 914 Ad and ending in the middle of the tenth century. The Irish monasteries provided important economic and political focal points to the Vikings for provisions, precious goods, livestock and captives. This was also the reason that monasteries were greatly favored by the Vikings for raiding for both periods the Vikings invaded Ireland. The early Vikings in 795 Ad were of the Norwegian decent. In the first of half of the ninth century the Viking raids were quick and very sporadic. When they would do a raid in Ireland, they would happen maybe once a year, or maybe only one every two years.

The impact was considered to be positive due to the way the country was “handled”. The positive impact showed others who thought of invasion how to have to plan and strategize against Ireland against their “weakness” trap.
