I was raised in a christain home and so I was taught about the importance of loving and respecting others and no matter what ethinic group they belonged. The identity of this group as defined to me, during my childhood is that we should have the ‘we’ mentality as it stresses about the needs and goals of others rather than your own needs, which played a vital role for my identity (France, Rodriguez, & Hett, 2013).
Question 4: What messages did you receive about your racial/ethnic/cultural identity during childhood?
The constant reminder that we should always remember who’s children (family) we are, before taking or making any decision. Likewise, messages about loving ourselves and others as the ‘bible’ recommended, and doing to others the things we want to be done to us. My father, will always tell us about the importance of family sticking together, supporting each other, fighting, and overcoming challenges as a result of staying together.

More so, Nigeria has various ethnic groups and there are still segregation about some groups not wanting to have anything with the other groups. In my case, my family did not mind who you were tangled with as long as the person had the same faith as yours, loves and respect you and others in your family.
