In the beginning of the novel, Alyss is characterized as a premature, lovely, and non-princess like. She has a very strong imagination that she needs to learn how to control to be queen. Alyss wants to be queen such as when Alyss said “ I wish to be queen for a day.” (Beddor 22) and her mother's crown floated from her head and Genevieve said “you’ll be queen soon enough.” (Beddor 23) She likes to prank such as when “She gave Biwit a piece of cake and it turned out to be a …show more content…
handful of gwormmies.” (Beddor 24) Bibwit thought “Alyss is young and needs to be taught.” (Beddor 24) Alyss doesn’t like Doge calling her princess because they are friends. Doge said “Happy birthday princess and bowed” and she said “Cut it out!” she does not like her friend bowing to her. (Beddor 28-29)
In the second part of the novel Alyss was described as a more mature, quiet, and older after she decided to forget about wonderland and years passed. She became more mature because she tore down her pictures of wonderland and put on the dress her mom gave her. She also conformed to society and became a completely normal who was to marry a prince. In the story her mom said “you’re wearing the dress.” (Beddor 151) This signifies that she has conformed the society and decided to wear something normal. She does not talk to anyone because she does not have many friends to talk to. In the book it said “Alice worked hard to enter this new world.”(Beddor 162) Which I think means she did not know much about the world and in turn did have much to talk about. In the second part of the novel Alice was older and was to get married. In the book it said that she was 22 when she was going to get married. The book said “Hatter was closer to finding Alyss Heart than he had been in thirteen years.”(Beddor 173)
For the third part of the novel she was portrayed as nervous going into The Looking Glass Maze, more confident coming out, and more aggressive in combat.
Before she went to the looking glass maze she was nervous that her imagination was gone. She thought “They ask too much of me.” and the she said “I don’t think I’m ready for all this.” (Beddor 134 in pdf) This shows that she is nervous and thinks that she can’t do it. After Alyss came out she killed everybody in the shop and General DoppleGanger said “More of The Cut will be coming.” and Alyss said “Let them come.” which signifies that she is no longer scared. (Beddor 172 in pdf) Alyss also said “I’ve finished running from you, Redd. It’s time for you to run.” (Beddor 173 in pdf) After Alyss came out of The Looking Glass Maze the book described her as more aggressive. The book said “A four card tried attacking her, but she blew at him and he went crashing through a wall.” It also said “With a quick one-two she jabbed the pointed end of her scepter into the card soldiers.” (Beddor 172 in
pdf)
Like many people Alyss demonstrates how people change in their environment after a long time. This applies as a big part in the novel because Alyss starts in Wonderland. Then goes to Earth and conforms to the Earth’s society and then she comes back to Wonderland and is expected to defeat Redd. This is very important because she has to go through many changes which will affect her hen it comes to defeating Redd. Alyss has gone through many adventures to defeat Redd in the final battle, but what will she do next?
