I think the individually journey determines the role in society by the choices that you make. In the book Inside Out and Back Again Ha’s father Chose to be in the navy. She knows that his father got captured. I know this because In the chapter Navy Mission, page 12 it says, “ Father left home on a navy mission on this day 9 years ago when I was almost one. He was captured on Route one an hour south of the city by moped. That’s all we know.” Ha mother wants to leave where they are at because of the Vietnam war. Dr. Pauline Whittier ( Her mother ) told Maddy that she was not allowed to go outside because if she did she could die. A boy named Olly moved across the street from her. Olly is one of Maddys two friends.Maddy was to scared to go outside so they would talk to each other through their window. One day Maddy let him in the house. Maddys mother found out. After that he never entered the house again. One day Maddy basically decided to sneak out with Olly. They went to Hawaii. She ended up getting sick a couple times . In the final scene, when her mother found out that she got sick , she had to go back home. She started questioning her sickness , so she was looking through her hospital files and found out her sickness wasn’t as bad as her mother made it. After that the mother and the daughter got into a argument and there relationship will never be the way that it was
