In the first act, Abigail immediately starts by lying, which becomes her first introduction to every reader. Rumors are spreading that she and the other girls performed witchcraft in the woods. Abigail is a bloodthirsty young girl, who will do anything that she must or can, in order to get what she wants. Selfishness is usually a characteristic that most people do not aim to be and they tend to veer from any person who is selfish. This causes the reader to despise Abigail since she places her own interests so far above anyone else’s that she is willing to get countless of innocent people killed. Again, she and the girls could have just confessed and they would have most likely been pardoned, but that is not the case.
Abigail is a character that the reader should love to hate and they should not feel remorse in doing so. Her lousy personality traits make her a terrible person, allowing a regular person to view themselves as a better person, resulting in a hatred of Abigail. This hatred is the most justifiable of any hatred, since Abigail is truly an evil, dishonest, manipulative, and greedy teen.
