How Does Cellalase Affect The Synthesis Of Cellulase

The energy of activation is the minimum amount of energy needed to initiate a reaction. In this lab, we find this important because different enzymes reach the energy of activation for applesauce, and some do not. An enzyme is a molecule that helps initiate a chemical reaction. A catalyst, an enzyme, decreases the amount of energy the body needs to produce to break down molecules faster. On the other hand, the substrate, or reactant, is the molecule that is being acted upon and is being broken down. The breaking down of the substrate occurs in the active site in a tertiary or quaternary structure. When the substrate is broken down, the enzyme can move on to another substrate and break it down because the enzyme is not “used up”. An enzyme is recyclable and can be reused multiple times.
Doing so will allow us to determine which enzyme is most effective in producing juice.
For this experiment four tests are required to evaluate the problem: a test with a control (no enzymes), a test with water, a test with cellulase, and a test with pectinase. However instead of a coffee filter, a paper towel needs to be cut into a circle and folded into a funnel shape. The filter needs to be placed into the funnel to strain the liquids from the solids.
