Deviance is behavior that is a violation the norms of the society. Deviance is not necessarily bad, just different than the norm. We are all deviants in some form or other, it is any act by a person that others respond to negatively. Societal pressure is the control of deviance. Deviance is not as severe as criminality. Criminality is a violation of the law of the land and it is always criminal behavior. Crimes are deviances that are written into law and is punished in the judicial system.
