How Does Donald Trump Use Propaganda
Love him or hate him, Donald Trump is our President. Every President has used propaganda in one way or another. Propaganda is not a new concept. It could be virtuous or unscrupulous. Propaganda itself is neutral like most things. Additionally, it is used to persuade individuals to feel a certain way, to perform a specific deed or discontinue engaging in a specific act (Cross 247). Effective propaganda is not about facts and policy, it is about emotion. Fear and rage are being provoked. Donald Trump is either unwise or extremely intelligent. Maybe he does not comprehend that his words impact the American citizens. There is a cause and effect of what every President of the United States verbalizes. Trump uses a few different types of propaganda against the American people. President Trump has fueled the divide in this country due to his use of propaganda in campaign rhetoric, unhinged tweeting, and most of his speeches, that have severely wounded the American people and their ability to stand united. In New York City on September 19, 2017, President Trump addressed the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he used the same forms of propaganda that Donna Woolfolk Cross explained in her essay …show more content…
According to CNN, on September 26, 2017, President Trump posted three tweets about NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem (Cillizza). He started a feud with professional athletes. Why? To divide, not to unite Americans. All presidents of the United States before Trump have tried to unite the people, not divide us. “Trump ran as a divider, not a uniter. He won that way -- offering safe harbor for people who had long resented politicians who told them they had to accept those who didn't look like them, sound like them or think like them” (Cillizza).
