How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Literary Techniques Used To Build A Short Story
In the 19th century America saw the growth of the short story. These were often like stories

that had been written up until the time using characters and a plot however, the stories were usually

condensed into less than fifty pages. The short story became a favorite of the public and many

authors were well known for only writing these sorts of stories. In his famous short story The Tell- Tale

Heart, Edgar Allan Poe made use of writing methods that were new at the time, however they are still

an essential part of the foundation of modern literature. Edgar Allan Poe builds anticipation, creates

transformations in character dynamics and uses a unique plot structure to create a short story that

tells the audience about the events

The last part of the story shows that the man feels guilty for what he had done and views the

situation a different way than he did before in the story.

Lastly Edgar Allen Poe uses different elements to change the plot of the short story. Unlike

many stories that had been written Poe used a different method. One of the ways he does this is by

using a method called foreshadowing. This is still used in modern literature to a large extent. It helps

to build up anticipation and creates a link between two different parts of the story. In the story Poe

introduces us to the young man, and how other people call him a madman because of what he did.

This brings the end of the story to the foreground showing the effects his actions had on his life after

the murder. It is an interesting way to grab the attention of the reader from the start.

Although the short story was written by many people during this time in history Edgar Allen

Poe's A Tell- Tale Heart does not get lost within the pages of other stories. The innovative writing style

of Mr. Poe's story has aged very well one may not even think that it has been over two hundred years

since the story was written. Lastly the character development makes sure that the audience who
