How Gordon Gecko compares to an ‘Ethical Leader’
The movie Wall Street depicts the intricacies of financial transactions and the opportunity some investors take to make huge sums of money. Gordon Gecko is a millionaire through finding the right opportunities in the investment world. Gordon is very harsh with his words, emotional in his judgment about people and finds investment to be like a game where the most ruthless player wins. He is a very ruthless player, aiming for more and more money. Profit is the only reward he cares about, no matter who gets hurt in the process.

He had an estate, a family and ability to do anything he wished. In the short time Fox worked with Gecko, he acquired a penthouse on the East side, a beautiful girlfriend and a promotion in his own firm. The influence Gecko exerted led Fox to believe that insider trading is the only way to wealth. Illegal behavior is rarely sustainable and most times is punished. Fox had strong personal values that Gecko thought soft and inacceptable in trading. Emotion had no place in making easy millions. Buddy’s own values were stronger than all the arguments Gecko presented. When Buddy saw his actions personally hurting his family and community he turned against Gecko and tried to redeem himself.
While the opinions Gordon Gecko held about Greed, Capitalism and ‘being on the inside’ make sense in terms of making money, they omit a lot of circumstances and human values. It is true that a profit focus makes for an efficient method of business growth and entrepreneurship.
