How Does Hamlet Remember The Ghost

After feeling completely alone in the world and even contemplating taking his own life, everything changes for Hamlet when he meets his father’s ghost. His father reveals himself to Hamlet and reveals the truth behind his death. Hamlet is astonished by the truth, that his uncle killed his father. Before the ghost departs, Hamlet promises him he will avenge his death. While Hamlet earlier recognized committing suicide would be a sin, he gladly takes on the task of killing his uncle, because avenging his father has become a moral necessity for Hamlet. Hamlet’s need to help the ghost starts from the moment he meets him, when the ghost describes his current dwelling place as being in “sulphurous and tormenting flames”. Hamlet feels pity towards
Knowing the ghost is his father, gives him the motivation he needs to help the ghost with his revenge in whatever way is needed. After the ghost tells his story, we know that Hamlet is willing and ready to take revenge when he says “with wings as swift as meditation or the thoughts of love, may sweep to my revenge”. What Hamlet is saying, is he is ready to go avenge his father’s death that very moment. Before this he was contemplating suicide, which is something he really wanted to do, but did not because it was a sin; however, now he is willing to go take another’s life to avenge his father. I do not believe he sees seeking revenge as being a sin, because if he did he would have contemplated what he was doing before he agreed to his father’s request. Never in this passage does Hamlet stop to question if avenging his father is a sin, because he knows it is something he needs to do to attain justice. For Hamlet, he feels the need to avenge the Kings death, because as the King’s son he has a duty to honor his father’s wishes. Once he finds out the ghost is his father, Hamlet is more than willing to help avenge his death, because as his son it is his duty to make things right and bring justice back to the
