The people in the community start to look up to her and give her a second chance. In the novel it states, "It is our Hester,- the town's own Hester,- who is so kind to the poor, so helpful to the sick, so comfortable to the afflicted!" ( Hawthorne 127). Seven years ago, Hester was judged by the community in a negative way and now they have a positive look on her. She is turning her life around and has contradicted her old ways. Hester drastic change on life makes the symbol of the letter A change. In the novel it states, " Many people refused to interpret the scarlet A by its original signification. They said that it meant Able; so strong was Hester Prynne, with a woman's strength" ( Hawthorne 127). The community refuses to talk about the past symbolism of the letter and it now means that she is a strong woman.
