Section 1: Ecological Theory and Mason’s Development The microsystem is the immediate environment that child lives in that affects his/her development. Factors such as family, parents, sibling, community and friends. His dad always played music that was about life and figuring it out, his teacher pushed him to find himself in art, his boss saw potential in him at work, he saw his dad’s car as the cool vehicle to drive, he saw the college lifestyle of his sister as free and exciting. These factors can be traced to how Mason develops throughout the movie and becomes the young man that he is at the end. A person who is passionate about art, works hard at it, wants to be free of control, always asks questions, and wants to fun. largest and most distant collection of people and places to the child that still exercises significant influence on the child. As a young child he was never as vocal as his sister but he would speak his mind to his family about his thoughts. He would always ask his dad about his life and his mom about her things botherings him. We see this change in his adolescence stage especially in the scenes about his 16th birthday. Mason is less vocal and his parents seem to have to drag conversation out of him, his girlfriend says he’s always down about something, and he doesn’t comment much on his mom’s choices or decisions of life. Mason turns into a spectator as he grows older up until his late years of highschool going into college where he voices out more. According to the article “Personality development and adjustment in adolescence” adolescence is “characterized as a period of profound and pervasive change, transition, and unceasing struggle for adulthood” (Schneiders).
