In Louisiana, there is a lack of public defenders and this cause a huge problems for those who could be innocent and those who are awaiting trial. According to Campbell Robertson, due to the lack of public defenders, poor people accused of a crime are put on a waiting list and have to wait months before their trial is heard. Matt Pearce claims the accuser is also put in jail until a public defender is appointed. Once their case is picked up attorneys spend very little time with those that have been accused of a crime, so often times those accused plead guilty even if they are innocent. The lack of public defenses cause many problems such as the criminals stay in jail until their case is heard. Many of the criminals convicted of crimes are not able to post bail so they plead guilty in order to serve a quicker sentence than waiting for a public defender. Those accused of a crime continue to stay because almost none of them ever gets their case heard. There are also things that people have already done to keep these from happening such as providing places for parolees to work. Although there are already plans in place to keep criminals out of jail, there are also things we can do to help this such as provide jobs and eventually careers for parolees. Poor people are being taken advantage of and need your help to correct this
