Poverty is a depressing situation. Being impoverished means that you or your family can not afford certain material items. Mostly ones everyone needs. This also affects the children of the family as they live in poverty for most of their lives and continue the poverty cycle. However bad the situation there is a solution. Poverty should be eradicated by a balance government and personal help.
The effects of poverty are something that not everyone can sense, mostly because they themselves are not impoverished. In 2pac’s song “Brenda’s Got A Baby” (Shakur, Tupac Amaru. "Brenda's Got A Baby." YouTube. YouTube, 05 July 2011. Web. 04 Apr. 2017.) We can truly see an inside look on poverty. If we dig inside on the lyrics we get …show more content…
One way is to improve social insurance because “in the long run, if social insurance is made more effective... the group receiving assistance should decline substantially.” (Ball, Robert M. Is Poverty Necessary? (n.d.): n. pag.www.ssa.gov Social Security Administration. Web. 4 Apr. 2017.) This shows a solution, make social insurance more effective. The key words here are more effective not more money. Along with this we can see that the government wanted to solve the poverty issue in America this way. Arthur Brooks has an equally great way to eradicate poverty. In his video titled "There Is Only One Way Out of Poverty." (Brooks, Arthur C. "There Is Only One Way Out of Poverty." YouTube. YouTube, 13 Mar. 2017. Web. 04 Apr. 2017.) he proposes that the government should help only if the impoverished try to help themselves out of poverty. Mr. Brooks suggestion is the answer to “How do we solve poverty” a balance. It would not make sense to just give the poor money just because they are poor. It would make more sense to give money out if the impoverished are willing to get out of poverty. Money is not the answer, it is a …show more content…
Michael Metcalfe has a radical idea. In his TED talk "We Need Money for Aid. So Let's Print It." (Metcalfe, Michael. "We Need Money for Aid. So Let's Print It." TED. Ted, Nov. 2013. Web. 05 Apr. 2017.) He suggests to print money to the poor. His idea although smart will not solve the poverty cycle. We have already established that we should help those who are willing to help themselves, and even if we account for that a person who is poor usually does not have adequate education and without that, how should the poor know how to spend money wisely? Christopher Blattman is another person who think we should simply give the poor money. Mr. Blattman’s interview “Ending Poverty by Giving the Poor Money” (Lowrey, Annie. "Ending Poverty by Giving the Poor Money." The New York Times. The New York Times, 20 June 2013. Web. 05 Apr. 2017.) He brings to the table the idea that giving the poor money makes encourages them to search for a job. This again will not work for the same reasons as Mr. Metcalfe. Giving the poor money is useless if they do not know how to spend it. And how does giving the poor money encourage them to find a job? We saw in the SSA report that it actually encourages people to not work as much when they were given
