How Does Shakespeare Present Ambition In Macbeth

William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright during the Elizabethan era. He was regarded as one of the greatest writers with his plays being performed more than those of any other play writers. One of his famous, shortest and bloodiest tragedies is Macbeth. Macbeth is Shakespeare’s profound vision of evil which is based on contradiction and ambition. The play distinguishes of man desires of being a king. Shakespeare’s understanding of the complexity human nature is shown in Macbeth. Macbeth was written in the 1606 in the early reign of James. James was patron of Shakespeare acting company. Ambition is the main aspect that drives Macbeths to commit the crime. Macbeth is a Scottish general who is naturally not inclined to committing crime however it is in his blood to want more power. This urge for power leads him to the three witches which announced he is going to be king. “All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!” the prediction made by the witches that one day Macbeth is going to be king brought him joy. This prophecy also caused him doubt and turmoil. The use of “hereafter” could foreshadow death , since the hereafter is used for life after death.
