In the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck it describes that these two immigrant farmworkers, Lennie and George traveling together. The reason that these two are together is because Lennie Smalls: one of the characters is mentally impaired and George knew his Aunt Clar. Aunt Clar had asked George to watch Lennie for her cause it was her time to go... These two were always moving around place to place, to get money. These two were dreaming of buying a land together. This was their dream to achieve. But they went to this farm to work for a boss. Let me tell you that his son Curley isn’t a friendly “fella”. They meet so many people at their stay here. Steinbeck explains, “ tell you what”- he leaned forward eagerly “ S’pose I went in with you guys, Tha’s three hundred an’ fifty bucks I’d putin. I ain’t much good but I could cook and hoe the garden some. How’d that be?” [Steinbeck 59]. Steinbeck is basically saying that Candy is giving them all his savings and worth just to be on their dream farm. Candy wants this friendship and to be accepted so badly that he will do that. He believes if he does this that he wont be so lonely. Next Steinbeck explains “ you seen what hey done to my dog tonight? […] When they can me here, I wish’t somebody’d shoot me”[Steinbeck 60]. As Steinbeck explains “ […] why can’t I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely” [Steinbeck86]. In this she is talking to Lennie, and Lennie is remembering when George told him that she’s bad and that he should keep away from her. Steinbeck is explaining that she goes out of the house that Curely tells her to stay in all day just to talk to these boys. She’s just trying to make friends but nobody understands that through out this story. Steinbeck also explains “well, I ain’t told this to nobody before. Maybe I ought’n to. I don’t like Curely. He ain’t a nice fella” [Steinbeck 88]. So, as she’s talking the Lennie about her problems, she says this. She is basically saying that she only married him cause she was LONELY. She knew that she would make friends at the farm he worked at, so she ended up marry him. No one understood how lonely she was always in that house. But as you can see this shows so much loneliness. In conclusion, the Of Mice and Men you can see that there are plenty of lonely people in this this story. Candy was eagerly to be with George and Lennie on this dreamland of there’s and he wanted to know for sure that is was going to happen. Crook was and has always been judged because of his skin color. You would’ve thought that since slavery was over, that they wouldn’t treat him like that anymore. But nope, I guess not.. Then Curley’s Wife has always been lonely.
