Back then it was acceptable to veto a woman’s order and was considered right, and because he had never done that his mother was astonished and happy that her son was growing up showing sense now. Never do this in today`s time for you will be called a fool and be slapped in the face by your mother if you do what the ancient Greeks once did. Before he had never was determined thus was never fully when talked things he set out to do so when he said he was going to get a boat ,and go to Pylos then Sparta none of the suitors believed he was actually going to do so. “Telemachus, my high and mighty, fierce young friend, no more nursing those violent words and actions now. Come, eat and drink with us, just like the old days.”(I.337-339) “Surely not Telemachus, with all his tiresome threats.”(I.221) these quotes prove that they did not think Telemachus could do it and is proved wrong in “That dumbfounded them both. The poem begins with four books telling of a future hero, Odysseus's son Telemachus. Telemachus has his father's gift of speech and some of his courage, but needs Athena's encouragement before he ventures forth. Athena makes explicit Odysseus's excellence. Posing as Mentor, she marvels "now there was a man, I'd say, in words and actions both!" (102). Many Greek heroes are men of action, a few others skilled in counsel, but few combine the two like Odysseus. As Telemachus relates it, people say that Odysseus pledged his word and "made it good in action" on the battlefield (110). Telemachus wishes that his father could have had a good death in battle, or in old age at home, either of which would mean great fame for the Greek hero. Instead, he…

Masculinity was a typical attribute to have in ancient Greece. If you were masculine, you were looked up to. If a father of a son were masculine, he would want the same thing for his son. In the beginning of the poem, Telemachus is a stubborn young adolescent who aspires to be just like his father. It’s a hard task to grow up without your dad around because you have no one to teach or guide you. When Telemachus is talking to Eurymachus he says, “Eurymachus, clearly my father’s journey home is lost forever. I no longer trust in rumors-rumors from the blue-nor bother with any prophecy, when mother calls some wizard into the house to ask him questions.” (1:…

Telemachus eventually uses Eumaeus, Odysseus’ swineherd, as a father figure in his life. A lot of times, when the parent comes back, their child does not recognize them. This happened in book 16 of ‘The Odyssey’ This happens a lot in the world today because a lot of military personnel have to go overseas and fight in wars just like Odysseus did. Many of the kids whose parents are in the military grow up without a father or mother figure in their life for some or most of their childhood. You can imagine Odysseus serving in the military and that Telemachus is his kid. Argos is Odysseus’s dog. He was left as a baby when Odysseus left for the trojan war.”Trained as a puppy of Odysseus, but never taken on a hunt before (Homer 17.4)”.The Odyssey also says “ Argos grew old in his masters absence (Homer 17.8)”.…

All his life he has heard other people comment on how great and strong of a person his father was but Telemachus was never able to achieve the same greatness as his father. Even his own mother unintentionally ignores her son. Penelope constantly hopes for the return of Odysseus and “worships” his myth of strength and courage. When Telemachus leaves Ithaca for the first time with Athena, he meets Nester. Nester treats Telemachus as an equal instead of as the son of a great, heroic, god like figure. This is a great turning point for Telemachus during his journey. He here begins to find himself on this spiritual journey of his. As Telemachus travels he begins to have his own adventures and stories to tell. He retains more and more of his father’s great qualities and slowly, Telemachus is becoming…

It was thought only planarians can regrow their spines, however, it turns out that some humans could also perform this feat. This was done by a hero back in the times of the ancient Greeks. Telemachus, the protagonist of Telechamy ( the first four books of The Odyssey by Homer), was introduced as a victim for the vultures and finished at the end of the fourth book as a confident youth. This was all because of the introduction of Athena, goddess of wisdom, into his sedentary life. Telemachus’ metamorphosis from an idle coward to an accomplishing hero was all due to the efforts of Athena’s encouragement. She was able to greatly change of Telemachus’ personality because of her encouragements and helpful deeds, and led him to accomplish great feats.…

In the Odyssey by Homer, Telemachus is the son of Penelope and Odysseus. When Telemakus was a young infant, his father Odysseus went to fight in the battle of Troy. Because of Odysseus’ pride he got stuck at sea for 20 years. During these 20 years that he was away Telemachus grew up day by day. He lived in the palace of Ithaca with his mother and her suitors. As he grew older he started to notice that the suitors were consuming all of his father wine and killing all his cattle. Telemachus was always scared to say anything to the suitors and this is shown when he says the following words to Athena: “Yet, were Odysseus to return, were they to see him here again, they would not only pray for gold or richer clothes-just faster feet. But he has…

Telemachus responds back to Atinoos, but he complains and whines about how he doesn’t have power against the suitors. Telemachus tries to empathize Atinoos by telling him that “isn’t it enough that you could strip my house,” when he was young and powerless (2.229-230). What Telemachus is really tired of is that he has lost power against the suitors. He is asking for mercy, and he is now pleading to them. The tone shifts after a sentence, and Telemachus wants to, “bring back doom upon,” the suitors if he can (2.333). Telemachus shows that he is angry, but it seems pathetic because he ended with, “if I can. He is out of options, and he has nothing to do but to let out all his emotions. He ends his speech saying that it suits the men, “that I have none,” of the equipment (2.336) He ends his speech without any approval. Without any doubt, Telemachus fails to convince the…
