Turkey is one of the most fastest growing economies in the world, the reason for that is its secular democratic government and its unique geographic position. Turkey lies partly in two different continents, Asia and Europe. Historically, this country played the role of the bridge and the barrier between these two continents. On the south of turkey lies the borders of Syria and Iraq, while on its east lies the borders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran; on the west though lies the borders of Georgia. The location of turkey is very blissful and strategic as it is surrounded by the Mediterranean, Aegean and the Black sea from the south, west and north. This spectacular location has benefitted Turkey from the aspect of tourism, as it is one of the top touristic destinations. However, Turkey is facing certain difficulties with this population because they have a large group of minorities that the government is neglecting. The largest of these minorities are the Kurds which according to the CIA fact book are about 18% of the population and are considered the strongest of the minorities. The Kurds however are causing many terrorist problems with the help of the PKK group that aims at providing economic and political rights to the Kurds in Turkey and create what they call an independent Kurdistan in Turkey. Turkey also faced another crisis in 2008 but as always expected from Turkey that it overcomes its problems and is always able to stand back up. Currently it is a member of the G-20 and its trade has increased tremendously, adding to that it is also one of the founders of the OECD.
In order to analyze the stages of development and see how Turkey has gone its way to the success we will go through several steps. First of all we will go through each decade starting from 1920 until nowadays. Next, we will go to the present economical, social and political conditions in addition to the determination of the national challenges and problems to be able to judge whether Turkey is developed or not.
