How Great Was John Tyler My Great
John Tyler was my great, great, great, great, great uncle. He was born on March 29,

1790 in Charles City County, Virginia. He is known for being the first president to serve without

being elected to office. He became president after President Harrison got a terrible cold during

his long inauguration speech. His cold turned into pneumonia and he died 32 days later. No one

knew what should happen next. They were unclear because the Constitution was unclear as what should happen in this case. John Tyler took control and stepped in as president. John Tyler served as America’s 10th president from 1841 to 1845. "Nicknamed “His Accidency,” Tyler was the first vice president to become chief executive due to the death of his predecessor"(Web). Even though he was a Democrat-Republican, John Tyler for vice-president on the Whig ticket in 1840. Once he became president, the Whigs tried to impeach him because they did not like his ideas.

"The Whigs positioned Harrison as a symbol of the common man and promoted his image as an Indian fighter on the American frontier, using the campaign slogan “Tippecanoe and Tyler too” (a reference to Harrison’s military leadership against a coalition of Indian forces at the 1811 Battle of Tippecanoe in Indiana).(Web). They won 53% percent of the popular vote and on March 4, 1841, William Henry Harrison delivered the longest recorded inauguration speech. It lasted one hour and forty-five minutes. It was delivered in a snowstorm.
He died of pneumonia one month later, believed to have been brought on by prolonged exposure to bad weather at his March 4
