One of the biggest ways technology has helped society is the evolution of medicine.
Technology has helped us excel in medicinal practices by aiding us in finding new medicinal procedures and practices. “Around 1 in 4 people who are hospitalized for heart failure don't last much longer than a year. But a new drug called Serelaxin has upped the odds of survival by as much as 37 percent. It's a synthetic version of the hormone relaxin, which is produced by pregnant women” (Watkins 8). Perhaps Heart disease is one of the most common diseases throughout the world. Finding a drug to suppress the effects of it is very helpful and the advancements in technology has allowed us to find that pregnant women produce it during pregnancy which can help us save many lives. Finding ways to test the medicine also required different types of technology, many will argue about the illegal testing of medicine and hazards that can occur during a surgical procedure, but there are ways to counter the consequences of both. New medicine and surgical procedures must be monitored in a controlled environment to reduce the risk of
accidents. Another major impact of technology is the relevance to daily life and how it has made many strides in the invention of new computers and smartphones. If you look around your school or office, everyone has some form of technology to use social media on their smartphones and computers which process data at a blinding speed. “The idea behind the development of neuromorphic chips is to make them a bit more like us—and in turn, make computers better at navigating and modeling human behavior. These neuromorphic chips, being developed by companies such as Qualcomm” (Larsen 1). Computers that are able to think like us will allow us to spend less time doing tasks and more on relaxing and spending time with your friends and family. In the future, the neuromorphic chips could help us in the development of artificial intelligence in robots to think and react like us to reduce the need for manual labor and the using them to rescue people from and earthquake or a fire. Another major impact of computers is the convenience of using them anywhere, this allows people to become more productive. The negative aspect of the increase in computer technology is less human interaction, and increased use of automated machinery can be dangerous towards a person. Computers and smartphone devices should be used as a secondary option to face-to-face interactions and automated machinery must be under constant monitoring. The implementation of new machinery to decrease the need for manual labor has helped us increase food production and transportation throughout many countries. Many third world countries are malnourished and need to have food transported to them because they do not have the resources to grow their own crops and sustain their habitat. “The adoption of modern technology such as “precision farming” – a new technique that boosts crop yields and reduces waste by using satellite maps and computers to match seed, fertilizer, and crop protection applications to local soil conditions – can pay for itself. This is farming in the 21st century” (Todd 1). Having new forms of technology to increase the yielding of crops can help many third world countries sustain themselves because farming methods such as precision farming is self-sufficient. Using computer technology to monitor the production of crops in farms has helped us stay efficient and increase productivity. The technology in factories has allowed us to sort food quickly and dispose of the spoiled food. Transportation of food has also improved because there are many companies that are dedicated to transporting to each distribution factory and then to the supermarkets. The increase in transportation, have made companies consider eco-friendly solutions to save funds on fuel and increase the efficiency by using less petroleum, but the increasing gas prices throughout the world will affect many people, because a fuel efficient car is not an affordable option for every individual, but they can try to lower their fuel consumption by traveling less and finding jobs near their homes. There are a few negative effects such as pesticides and preservatives in food which can cause cancer and other health problems. The increase in food production can help many people, but it should be inspected thoroughly. Technology’s effect on time has been very beneficial to all of us, but the few negative aspects can be avoided with careful monitoring. New medicine, technological advancements, increased food production and efficient transportation has helped numerous people throughout the world by making their lives easier and reducing the amount of casualties from diseases. Technology should continue to develop throughout future generation to ensure that more people can be helped when needed.
