How I Live Now Analysis

Piper and Daisy and the rest of the foster family were sent to a barn. They were there for a few days then a chaotic battle started outside one night. Piper and Daisy were taken out of the barn. They were provided with food and supplies by one of the soldiers. The girls set a mission to go back to their original home. Piper and Daisy were walking in the woods seeking their home. Daisy and Piper had walked for days and found nothing. Daisy was starting to get depressed, “For some stupid reason I started to cry then and I felt completely choked with despair and worthless and I …show more content…
It was just them in the van with a bunch of strangers. Daisy started thinking to herself, “ I tried to pull myself together because I was Piper’s guardian now and I thought I’d better act like it and make it clear to her that she was sure with me no matter what” (Rosoff,71). The relationship seen would be Piper and Daisy’s. Where Daisy is transitioning into more of a guardian or a caretaker of Piper. This relationship is very important because now that Piper and Daisy got sent away they don’t have the boys with the to protect them and help them. Daisy has to now watch over Piper and protect her. They are coming closer, having a stronger relationship. This makes the audience joyful knowing that Daisy is aware that she needs to grow up, be more mature and responsible for Piper this relationship makes both of the characters want and need each other. How I Live Now contains many emotions which can be found throughout the book and strong guardian relationships building up. Like emotions and relationships shown in this novel the fight or fight response of survival and familial loss is shown in the novel I Am

In a sense the holding environment of the family itself, i.e. the capacity and environment of the family unit to hold these intense emotions was negligible, not only did the parents send the message that they were unable to deal with intense emotions, they also related that they were unwilling to do so. Mary’s depressive reaction to this was two fold. There is an aspect where her cutting and depression were ways to reign in the family’s attention, to inject some emotional caring into her family, which she did successfully as evidenced by the family’s urgency at entering therapy. However, through therapy more was revealed about her depressive feelings and behavior. Through understanding what was going on in the room, the push and pull of how her parents would be minimizing of the emotional content and Mary’s reactions, it was eventually interpreted that in many ways her depression was a way of getting back at her parents, a…

She knows she can't erase all that and that it will always be a part of her just like Gatsby will always be in her heart."Oh, you want too much!" she cried to Gatsby. "I love you now – isn't that enough? I can't help what's past." She began to sob helplessly. "I did love him once – but I loved you too." (103) . She puts her real feelings away and walks into her “well-designed” illusory world. For instance, when Tom receives a call from his mistress, he goes inside to pick up the call without a world, Daisy then “suddenly threw her napkin on the table and excused herself and went into house” (17). In other words, Daisy clearly knows the affair of her husband. She just buries her miserable emotion inside and doesn’t complain. Moreover, on the day when Daisy’s daughter is born, Tom is “God knows where” (20). This implies one of the causes why Daisy feels “cynical” about everything and becomes more careless (19). It is torturing that her husband does not stay with her even on the day her daughter was born but what Daisy does is just turning away her head and weeping hopelessly. There is no doubt that Daisy understands her marriage is based on the money. She doesn’t gain happiness even though she gets her so called security and wealth from Tom. Ironically, she pretends that everything is going well and doesn’t face the problems in her life. Isn’t she a fool? Apparently, she just tries to obtain what would make her life easier, without realizing what she really…

In the final song “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story,” it matters who tells the story because that is the person who controls how one see’s or perceives history. After one dies all that is left is the story that someone tells about them. The story being told about them, could be manipulated and leave either a good or bad reputation. A persons story is told after they die and all that is left are their events and changes they have made. The song ends with the lyrics “Who tells your story?” which makes the listener question the good deeds that are to be done in order to have a great story left after they die. In the Hamilton Musical, Hamilton is the person who dies and Eliza is the one who lives and tells his story. In the end Hamilton’s…
