How Is Theseus A Hero Today
Theseus, King of Athens and son of Aegeus. Going on a journey the save his people from being the next meal of the Minotaur. Leaving his comfort zone, by risking his life for Athens. Everything including his love left behind, to fulfill his father’s position as King of Athens. This essay will prove as to why Theseus is a modern day hero.

Theseus would be a hero today because he saves the people of Athens, from the Minotaur. He stands bravely with a sword gripped in his hands, ready to battle the beast. “With a grunt, the beast charges directly into Theseus’s sword, which sliced through its neck”. After Theseus had killed the Minotaur he knew his people were safe. “The Minotaur bellows, utters a fearful moan, and then a gasp of death”. This shows proof that Theseus would be a hero today because he would be taking the role of a modern day Police Officer, by keeping his people safe from the evil.

“I will return Father,” said Theseus. “I will kill the Minotaur, and there will be an end to this slaughter”. He risks his life at this point for his people, to end the madness. “A giant bearing a giant iron-clad club attacks him, and Theseus instantly seizes his foe’s right arm and twists it until the club fell from his grip and the giant crumpled to the ground”. He goes through these struggles and still continues his journey. He shows that he is a modern day hero because he can be compared to a Fire Fighter. He risks his life for his people and that’s what Fire Fighters go through, by running into burning buildings to save lives at

Theseus remarks in the text, “I will kill the Minotaur myself, and free Athens from this disgraceful tribute to Minos.” This shows his courage. Him saying that he is going to go out into the labyrinth and “defeat” the minotaur also shows his courage, while showing his intelligence. He has Ariadne to help him defeat the minotaur which somewhat makes him lack intelligence because he couldn’t have defeated the minotaur without her help. In many stories, it is obvious that some heroes face more difficult challenges than others. In the book “Mythology” by Edith Hamilton, Odysseus has a more difficult time being the hero than Theseus. Although Theseus and Odysseus have difficult time being the hero, Theseus practically displays the life of a hero as somewhat simple. During the myths “Theseus” and “The Adventures of Odysseus”, the protagonists show that the life of a hero is difficult because one must be determined and never give up. Theseus and Odysseus also demonstrate that to be a hero, one must be willing to risk everything. In the book “Mythology”, Edith Hamilton proves that it is difficult to be a hero.…

I think Odysseus fits the title of a hero very well. Odysseus fits the description of a hero because he’s done a few things that are heroic. The first heroic thing he has done is go fight in a war with the trojans. Odysseus had come up with a plan for his men during the war. That plan was to build a big wooden horse as a gift for the trojans, the trojans accepted it and brought it inside their village. The trojans didn't know Odysseus and his men were inside the big wooden horse, Odysseus and his men eventually came out and attacked the trojans and won the war. “Harried for years on end, after he plundered the stronghold on the proud height of Troy.”(The Odyssey line 3). After Odysseus and his men left Troy they sailed near Ismarus, which is…

Since the beginning, heroic leaders are well recognized in society for their distinctive qualities, but as time progressed, the standards for heroic qualities become more known for one’s knowledge and willpower rather than their strength. Heroic leaders share common interests of wanting to protect, to inspire, and to bring joy to others. However, some leaders share the flaw of excessive bragging, where every encounter for them would be a chance to comment on how great they are. For instance, Harriet Tubman has taken part in the real-life controversy over slavery by taking action in rescuing over seven hundred slaves towards their path of freedom. Whereas, in the epic, The Odyssey, by Homer, the “heroic” protagonist, King Odysseus guides his…
