How My Grandfather Impacted My Life
The Big Impact Throughout my life I would say my grandfather had the biggest impact on my life. My grandfather taught me valuable things, whether it was insignificant or significant he taught the things to me. I know some things that he taught didn't make sense to me until now I finally understand why he did what he did to help me later in life. I really am grateful that I had the chance to spend as much time as I did with my grandfather, as it really improved me as a person.

The first thing he taught me was how to do was how to cut the grass. I know that learning how to cut grass may be a silly thing to teach someone to do, but you wouldn't believe that not everyone knows how to do it. It was always a certain way he wanted it done, rather it be high and thick or short and thin,it had to be cut the same way every time. I didn't understand why but, if it wasn’t cut the same way throughout the front and back yard, he would make me redo it all. That's almost 2-3 hours of cutting just grass, and it’s tiring work. I had fun making those simple mistakes just so I can spend a little more time with him, I would say it was worth it .In all I wouldn't say what he did was

He use to always tell me when I was younger ¨One day you will change someone's life forever. Rather it will be a big change or a little change their life will not be the same¨. At the time I didn't understand what he meant, but I never forgot those words. My grandfather and I use to always watch sports together rather it was tennis, soccer, golf, swimming, etc. we always watched it together. We did almost everything together even down to the smallest things such as sitting outside together, and he always found away to make those moments special. No matter how small those moments where I come to find that they all were precious in so many

My Grandfather never complained. No matter how bad it got, he never said anything. When he was young boy, he was thrown into the brutal and treacherous lifestyle that made up a Japanese internment camp during World War II. Treated like a POW, his life was miserable. When he was released from the camp he had to pick up the pieces that was his life. Everything changed. He was just a young man to make his own in the world. He struggled for jobs, was discriminated against, fought in the Korean War, and yet provided for his brothers and sisters with a smile on his face. He eventually started his own automotive repair company becoming successful. My grandfather became a successful man, attaining everything he wanted except one thing. A college degree. His father wouldn’t let him obtain an education. My grandfather promised himself he wouldn’t limit the…

When we drive around town and get a milkshake, it means so much more now that I know our time together isn’t limitless. More than anything, I’m finally beginning to see everything my dad does for me—even after chemo, he still cracks a joke. Even when he’s tired and fatigued, he asks how my day was. At the end of the day, it’s a parent’s duty to teach their children important life lessons, and my dad has unintentionally taught me the most important lesson of all. Just by watching him these past couple months, I’ve learned how to handle adversity with grace and to always look on the bright…

I never really think about not having a dad growing up unless someone points it out. That is, thinking about how it affected my life. “Sure it bothered me, but I didn’t need him,” is a quick summary I tell my friends. My father left Illinois not too long after I was born. My mother was still here, falling a tad bit short of the “responsible” example. Overall, I’ve done superb without him. However, thinking about all the times I wish he’d been here, I realize it made a big impact on my outlook and opinions.…

Was he understanding about retiring at an early age, or was he understanding about his accomplishments? I didn’t really understand his rush for retiring but understood that he was ready. I suppose he worried that he would miss out on activities that I and my brother took part in. Though we had the means to get him things that he always wanted; he preferred that we made something that came from the heart that was really and truly made from us. He always did appreciate it more when it was something homemade where we put a lot of thought into it. He understood about the decisions we made. He always said a little that actually say a lot and mean a lot to us. He always sat in his lazy boy recliner chair whenever I came to ask for money. Perhaps the most striking example of him understanding came to me when I decided to stay on St.Croix for another year to wait for my boyfriend to graduate. He waited until that very moment and sat me down. He told that he thought it was crazy and ridiculous idea, which I agreed. We spoke for about an hour, and then there was silence. I wasn’t just silence but a loud silence that spoke to me about that same stupid decision I made. That was just like him to say little and let the thoughts just run through my…

This led to him living in poverty and put him at a severe disadvantage. Given the time period he grew up in, he became an outsider. He was born into a well-off family, but the death of his father put my grandfather and his mother into a much lower social class, in which he did not have as many benefits as he would have had had his father been alive. His perseverance despite these unfortunate circumstances and his journey to make a better life for his future family are inspirational to me and show me that with all of the opportunities I am afforded I have no excuse to not make the most of them. I do not have to worry about putting myself through school, much less putting food on the table for my family from a young…

These little things are what made my grandfather so special to me and my family. I can remember back when I was about six or seven and my grandfather, my brother, and I set out on a journey. We set out to a local toy store to get a new Power Ranger toy. My brother and I had been trying to get this special toy for a couple of months now, and my grandfather pledged that we would not stop until we found this toy. We ended up searching about five stores and heading all the way down to Jenkintown, but my brother and I got what we wanted. I am telling you this story because my grandfather strongly believed that if he told you he would do something, there is a very good chance it was going to get done, not only does it demonstrate that he was a man of his word but it shows how far he would go for someone he loved.…

I was so very grateful when he gave me my second horse, Annie. Annie and I have managed to go very far together, competitions, pony club and also the casual trail ride up the bush. She has boosted my confidence and just made me feel on top of the world at the best of times. I’m able to work with animals and have happy experiences now as well as share and build a bond with them. Everything I have learnt with horses and animals has all been thanks to my beautiful great uncle. Having the smell of horse manure and freshly cut grass with the feeling of sweet cool wind on my cheeks the view of the bush paddocks as far as I could see made me feel like I was dreaming. Nothing around me could possibly hurt me or affect me or anyone else, just a paddock full of open thoughts.…

Four years ago on my birthday he came to my house and he took me, my sister, brother, and mom out to eat. Then he took me to the mall to buy clothing of my choice. The next day around 1:30 my mom received a phone call from my grandfather saying he wasn’t feeling well. We rushed to his house and he wasn’t able to get up, so we called an ambulance. He was hospitalized for liver failure. For the next two weeks we had gone to visit him at Chippenham Hospital.…
