On the other hand, a truthful exile will have better success to engage others from different cultures.
Although, king Abimelek financially restituted Abraham for taking his wife, king Abimelek question Abraham’s actions. In order for us to learn from Abraham’s example with regard to how we engage others from different cultures is to be sincere. A good relationship between two strangers from different cultures initiates from the point they meet. For example, Abraham-the Israelite meets king Abimelek “in the territory of the Negeb and lived between Kadesh and Shur and staryed in Gerar. Abraham could have cross-examined the cultres in the Negb territory. Soon after, Abraham would have at least have a perspective of the culture in Gerar. In addition, Abraham would have a better possibility to be truthful from the
beginning.
2. What are possible pedagogical implications for the second language teacher in light of this reality? The second language teacher may face implications when having a student feeling fear and anxiety. There can be a culture shock when a refugee is exposed to a different culture than his/ her own. For example, if we had Abraham as our student. Abraham is identified as an Israelite who believes in One God. His faith towards God drives him to be a stranger far from home. His home is now where we live. As his second language teacher we notice him shy, quiet, and overwhelmed. How can we help him academically and personally? First, as Christian teachers we have the responsibility to view our learner as a spiritual being. Our help towards Abraham will run smoothly when we remember that he is part of God’s image. Second, as Christian teachers we have the responsibility to attend him regardless of his belief/ religion. After, we tend him emotionally then we can concentrate on his academic performance. I strongly believe that motivation is essential to a learner. I can compare motivation to a vehicle’s key. A car’s motor cannot operate without inserting the key in the car ignition. Likewise a student’s brain will not function without motivation.
