How the ASPCA Uses Digital Media for Advocacy The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal) was founded in 1866, by a man named Henry Bergh, and was the first humane organization in North America. Now the ASPCA is the largest humane society in the world. Their mission is, "to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States." The ASPCA has legal authority to investigate and/or make an arrest of people committing crimes on animals. They are devoted to fulfilling their mission. Their organization operates nationwide providing leadership in their three key areas of work, which are caring for pet parents and pets, providing positive outcomes for at risk animals, and serving victims of animal cruelty. The ASPCA 's digital footprint uses many rhetorical strategies to provide information on how they intend to further their goals and fulfill their mission. The structure of the ASPCA website is very user friendly. They provide their audience with all the informati0on they need to either get involved physically, donate to the organization, and most importantly find out what the ASPCA is all about. There are a few purposes this website implies. One of their purposes is to inform people that animals are being mistreated every day. They support this purpose by posting different stories about animals being abused. Right on the homepage they have a title, "Recent News" and under the title, the site shows three top stories or articles that the audience can read. They also have a blog that you can quickly access by clicking the "Blog" tab. The blog has a variety of informative stories, videos, and pictures that their audience can read. The ASPCA also functions on the basis of donations, and their website makes the option to donate clearly visible on their homepage. They advocate this purpose with pathos.
