If the soldiers weren’t killed or wounded, they seen things that changed them for the rest of their lives. Some men seen their father or best friend get shot right next to them. Most of the soldiers seen people get stabbed. They can never get the picture out of their heads. Many soldiers turned to alcohol to solve their emotional problems. A lot of times domestic abuse took place a well. During battles entire generations of men were killed at a time. Families could be dead within seconds. A lot of family names were killed off. If you weren’t shot in the arm or the leg, you were basically dead. If you were shot in the arm or leg, it was usually amputated and you would have to live without an arm or leg. Soldiers were usually always starving. “Not only did soldiers face the possibility of getting killed in battle, their daily lives were full of hardships. They had to deal with hunger, bad weather, poor clothing, and even boredom between battles”(Ducksters pg.1). They usually had drills they had to do in the morning. All in all, soldiers were affected drastically during the Civil War.
There were many developments during the Civil War. The Rifle was invented. This was way better than the muskets that the soldiers used to work. The rifle had a greater range than the musket.
