The 1850 Compromise, And John Brown's Raid

Civil War was a really important moment in America. It led to the death of 700,000 American’s, and changed the course of American history forever. It also, ended slavery forever in the United States. There were many causes that led to this pivotal moment in history. The main causes of this war were: the 1850 Compromise, the Fugitive Slave Act, Dred Scott’s Decision, and John Brown’s Raid. The 1850 Compromise was the earliest cause of the Civil War. Henry Clay proposed the 1850 Compromise to solve slavery, as the nation is growing larger. There was a new fugitive slave act in 1850 to appease the South, as California entered as a free state to appease the North. Abolitionist Daniel Webster will compromise but former slave John C Calhoun will
not proceed. The 1850 Compromise was a huge cause at the start of the Civil War because the compromise changed laws, and changed the U.S. and people weren’t happy about it, Americans thought that fighting was the only way to solve things. Later in 1850, shortly after the compromise; another harsh cause of the United States came along. The Fugitive Slave Act, it urged the Northerners to coming a step closer to war. Americans found out that you can get a fine or sentenced to prison by helping out a slave during this time period. You could find a slave and return it to the owner who had control of he/she and receive money for it. $10 for returning, and $5 for freeing the slaves. It is required for U.S citizens and Marshals to capture runaway slaves. Slaves were an enormous cause in why the Civil War begin, Americans wanted to end slavery for good. It caused them to fight because slave states, and free states would argue juries over slaves. Caused arguments between so many people!
