The Civil War was a war that helped give slaves freedom, unite the people, and have the South and North join together as they once did. There was many important people, battles, and events during the Civil War. Two important events in this war was the Emancipation Proclamation and Lee’s surrender. Two important battles, are the battle of Gettysburg and the battle of Vicksburg. Two important people in this war was Stonewall Jackson and Jefferson Davis. The Emancipation Proclamation was a proclamation that allowed slaves to escape their farms or plantations except for the slaves in the border states. This was huge because about 3.1 million slaves escaped from their owners. In this proclamation if any slave owners or citizens tried to come after them, the Union soldiers would just shoot them up. Next important event is Lee’s surrender. This was a very important event because it declared the end of the war and everything went back to normal. After the battle of Appomattox, Lee’s men suffered another tough loss so he had no choice but to surrender. At the end of this surrender, all Southerners were allowed to keep their horses but all weapons
