There are numerous long term and short term events that caused the Civil War to occur. From the long term impacts of slavery and the Missouri Compromise to the short term effects of Uncle Tom’s Cabin and Bleeding Kansas, the Civil War was caused mainly by one significant step. Although Uncle Tom’s Cabin and Dred Scott had an impact on the civil war, it was not as significant as the election of 1860. The election was the most important event because it lead to the secession of South Carolina and also because of the drastic differences in ideology between the north and the south. The Dred Scott decision would lead to the ratification of the 14th amendment.*…

The United States of America was filled with tension because of numerous events. In the day that Abraham Lincoln became president, Southern states seceded. To make the situation even worse, the Civil War took place to resolve this conflict between the South and the North. President Lincoln was left with the trust to unite the Confederacy and the Union once again. President Lincoln’s duty of preserving the Union was more important to him than to give the slaves freedom because he just wanted to use the African-Americans for military force, political power, and to end the Civil War.…

Slavery is what I believe caused the Civil War for many reasons. One reason why I think slavery was a major issue in the 1860s is because it divided the country into half free, and half slave. " A house divided against itself cannot stand [Doc F]." This quote from Abraham Lincoln shows how other people thought about the country, and slavery. Another reason why slavery caused the Civil War is because if the north kept its freedom and the south kept its slaves then the country is going to fall apart, not from the outside but from the inside. " I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free [Doc F]." Another quote from Abraham Lincoln. There is no way that a country can stand half and half, it would be logical to think that someday one will take over the other. Since Abraham Lincoln was nominated to be President, South got unhappy, quick. South Carolina threatened to secede and many people led revolts against slavery. This is what sparked America to go to war.…

The American civil war which happened between 1861 and 1865 is one of the central events in America’s historical consciousness. The civil war which started because of the difference between the free and slave states over the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the territories that had not yet become states had both social and economic impacts on world’s history. One of the impacts is the loss of countless innocent lives which included friends, daughter, sons, and providers. Another impact of the war is ending slavery. The North fighting for freedom and preventing the South from seceding the country. while the South was fighting to keep slave labor.
