Therefore, groups such as the Big Sword Society are formed to seek revenge and kick out the foreign devils and make secondary devils, Chinese people who convert into Christianity, renounce their faith. The Christians think that their ways of introducing their religion is correct. However, the Chinese people are insulted by their methods. On pages 18 and 19, we see how Father Bey, a Christian priest destroys Tu Di Gong, a sacred idol for Chinese people. On panel 6 of page 18, Father Bey says, “ Worship one God! Not idol!” After he destroys Tu Di Gong, on page 19, panel 3, we see the shocked and insulted faces of the Chinese people whose comments are, “ What the--?! I can’t believe--! Who does he think he is?!” As Father Bey leaves, we see the Chinese men, except for one, preparing to beat him on page 19, panel 4. Because the Christian very much insulted their beliefs, the Chinese men think that the best way to achieve justice and prevent such a disrespect from happening ever again, is to use violence.
