Topic: Ways people stay focused and determined to getting good grades

Specific Purpose: To inform my audience me members the special ways and methods to get good grades and keep their grades up

Introduction

I. Does your grade point average ever frustrate you or make you depressed? Are you tired of getting bad grades on everything you put so much effort into?
II. Achieving success in school, takes more than just one’s typical intelligence. It usually takes good grades, self-discipline, and strict guidelines, which are also followed by many other factors.
III. Many of you know that a large percentage of your future success depends on how well you do in not only high school, but also college, which is why your grades are so important.
IV. You can focus on getting good grades by maintaining an exceptional attendance, being organized, having great time-management skills, taking good notes, and always studying in advanced.

Transition: So, what exactly are the steps?

Body

I. The importance of regular class attendance cannot be overemphasized.

A. Attendance can add emphasis on your values because it can imply to your professor how much you care about your grade
B. When you miss classes, you miss lectures, notes, discussions, explanations, and assignments, which can quickly cause you to become behind.
C. According to Cecilia Baker, poor attendance begins in elementary school, with 1 in 10 kindergarten and first grade students miss a month of school.

Transition: After dedicating your time to coming to every class you also need to be organized.

I. There are multiple ways to sort and organize yourself for class.

A. As a student you should use a student planner, to keep track of special dates and homework, a three-ring binder, to organize and separate handouts and class notes, and maintain a neat and organized homework and study space.

    Make sure you have all the supplies you need. It may help to have one 3-ring binder with pockets for each class with loose-leaf paper and dividers if they help. If your teacher likes to lecture, have a spiral notebook for notes because the pages are less likely to rip out than loose-leaf. Keep papers in chronological order, they'll be easier to find later when studying. If your binder starts to get full, transfer old papers into another binder to keep at home.
