The invention of Eatwell, a tableware set for dementia patients, helps to make the process of eating as simple as possible, thereby increasing their food and drink intake.
Impact on community
Eatwell is particularly important for dementia patients. Their motor impairments may result in spillage of food, thus they often consume less than what they should and suffer from a major issue of malnutrition.
Eatwell has many customized features such as easy-to-scoop utensils and cups made with anti-slippage materials which make the process of eating simpler. It has been used at senior homes and is shown to have helped dementia patients increase food and drink uptake significantly, hence alleviating the key problem of malnutrition that …show more content…

Babies develop diaper rash when a dirty diaper is worn for too long.
However, they are unable to express their discomfort in ways other than crying and some fall asleep after soiling their diapers, thus staying in a dirty diaper for a long period of time. Hence, they need to have their diapers immediately changed by their guardians whenever soiled in order to prevent outbreaks of rashes.
Proposed idea
A special diaper which allows guardians to be notified immediately whenever the diaper is soiled provided that both of them are near. The special diaper contains a microchip. Once it detects that it is in contact with any liquid, the microchip in the diapers will be activated to notify the guardians that the baby has soiled his diaper. This notification is done through the use of a warning sound that is emitted from the microchip, alerting the guardians to the baby’s direction to change his diaper.
Findings How it is applied?
1 This special diaper helps to draw attention to the baby without having him to cry whenever he is soiled. It allows his dirty diapers to be changed immediately, minimizing his discomfort and chances of having diaper rash. 2 A trial phase where feedback is collected from babies’ guardians. Considerations include the material of the microchip such that it is water-proof, and the frequency and volume of the warning sound emitted from the microchip such that it does not scare the
baby.
