How to Survive High School
How to Survive High School
English IV

Your whole life all you hear about is how scary high school is, and how you won’t survive. You hear about all the scary seniors who will harass you and make your freshman year horrible. My first day of freshman year I was terrible, but as the year went on it got easier. I had a mentor that thought me how I could survive high school stress free and always be happy. This is my fourth year of high school. I have all the skills and advice you will need to survive your next four years of high school. First rule of surviving high school, never do your work early. Always wait till the last minute. Procrastination will be your best friend throughout these next few years. Why wait till the last minute? Procrastination drives you as a student to succeed. You will have more motivation to finish your assignment that was assigned weeks ago. You will become overflowed with excitement and joy when doing your assignment. Also, become 100% more focused on the task at hand. Second rule of surviving high school, sleep in school. You will be trying to balance school work, video games, recreation, sleep, and a social life. Since recreation is an after school activity, and a social life is also outside of school, school work and sleep must be done in school. Therefore, it only makes sense to do homework and sleep in school to make time for the more important after school activities. Third rule of surviving high school, study at the last minute. Your teachers will tell you to start studying a good week before a big test, but they are wrong. Why waste all your time studying when you will forget it when you get the test? So, if you want to get higher scores on test study the night before. Even better study all of it just before a test. The information will be fresh in your memory and you will remember it all and you will get much higher scores. Fourth rule of surviving high school, you must know how to multitask.

The art of procrastination has troubled high school kids for quite some time now. Im sitting here typing my own essay at the eleventh hour, hoping that as the deadline approaches I can piece together an essay to save my grade. “Procrastination is for the efficient at heart”, this quote captures the procrastinators only strength: the ability to make the most out of the time they have. Most students will crack as the pressure of meeting the deadline with quality work overbears them, as they regretfully wish they spent their time wiser. Few will rise up to the challenge and meet the standards, but what separates the students who succeed and those who miserably fail?…

When I have a load of work to do, I manage my time efficiently by sitting down, playing music, with no distractions, and get work done before the assignment’s due date. As soon as I receive a task, whether it be due in a month or the next week, I write it down in my planner, phone, and computer to remind myself to complete my homework. Procrastination is never a problem for me since I plan ahead and stay organized. This allows me to have free time on my weekends, relax from school, and not have to worry much about homework or studying. It 's the rock bottom of a student 's educational career: The day a student drops out of high school. From there, the world may seem to go down in a spiral. Today, 16% of dropouts are unemployed and 32% live below the poverty line. Dropouts with jobs earn an average of only $12.75 per hour (Messacar 55). Students who do graduate from high school have an unemployment rate of only 7.6% (Bureau of Labor Statistics). While the graduation rate may be improving, there are still some out there who find it hard to adjust to the high school atmosphere after leaving their cozy little middle school. Sometimes, middle school poorly prepares their students for life in high school. Some students grow very stressed during their freshman year in high school which leads to a lower GPA. Freshman year is seen as the "make or break" year because the freshmen who fail their first year of high school will most likely drop out of high school altogether. To help these students, we can use solutions such as freshman academies, an interdisciplinary curriculum, and communication, which are a few yet effective solutions to ease a student 's transition to high school.…

Newton's first law states that an object at rest will stay at rest while an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by a force. The last part of that is crucial; only by applying a force will the motion of an object change. In a similar vein, it is through disobedience and rebellion that social progress can be made. The earliest example of American disobedience is the Stamp Act Congress.…

High school was my time to stop fooling around. The first day of high school, I awoke to the aroma of coffee brewing on the stove. As I get ready to head out my sister approached me, and told me “Education is the key that opens the door many possibilities you can be and do in your near future” I was so nervous the sweat started dripping from my palms, and I suddenly felt 15 degrees hotter. I was nervous, I knew this is the time to get serious. Immediately a thought came across “ how well I do these four years can affect my entire life”. At first high school might look like a time to have fun and have no worries, which was my initial thought. Later on you start to realize that you need work hard. I thought “How would my future look? I don’t want to end up hopelessly. I want to make something of myself. Sometimes it can be hard though. I just have to work through the pain. At this point it’s make it or break it, success is my only…

The last time I remember something as huge as starting in high school was having to move to Oregon from Alaska, but for better or for worse, here I am, attempting to make my mark on this big blue Earth. However, Highschool was never always just peaches, cream, rainbows and unicorns. If I’m to be one hundred percent honest here, I was legitimately terrified of it, whether it be the totally reasonable fear of being stuffed into a locker by a bully or getting lost in a labyrinth of corridors and passages of infinite classes and broom closets. But those fears never truly emerged up until the final days of freedom that remained from my graduation of 8th grade. As the days drew nearer, so did my fear reaching the brim of a breakdown. I was scared,…
