Moment Analysis My heart sank as we heard about the terrible news. We knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. The longer it took for us to find our names; the harder it became to flip through the pages. We flipped to where our department was located and my heart nearly stopped. The page was more blank than expected. Two names remained on the page that was once filled with dreaded long hours for the upcoming week. My coworker and I couldn’t wait to get home to open the letter to read it. We went and sat down in the restaurant to read our letters. She spoke in the tone as she did months ago. It was almost like we reminded her of a terrible incident that was nearly

I will never forget today. It is unbelievable how much things have changed in only a small matter of time. The grief that consumes me is much like the loss of a family member, although me and Brother Malcom have no ties other than our religious and political standpoints. Still, I can not explain this overwhelming feeling of desperation. I can not help but think that someday this journal maybe of some value, so I suppose I should illustrate the events of today with my firsthand observations.…

I read your story and there was a few things that hit me throughout this passage. A few of them being the sense of honesty and humility you hold, the honesty towards the people you work with and the general awareness and involvement to those you got to share this time of your life in close relation with. The genuine interest you expressed towards your co-workers truly assisted in the theme of community being portrayed by you in the narrative.…

Eliezer Wiesel, like many other Jews, had to face and battle with suicidal thoughts and the temptation of abandoning everything by simply letting oneself die. Elie Wiesel was tempted to commit suicide in the very beginning, during the first selection that he went through. After the witnessing the death of the babies being burnt in a ditch, as he said it in the novel, “[…], I do not want to wait here. I am going to run in the electric wire. That would be better than slow agony in the flames.” (Page 31). Further in the novel, his father fell ill with dysentery. Shortly before his parent’s death, Eliezer Wiesel was advised to eat his own father’s ration of bread and soup, because the latter was going to die either way; “[…] There’s nothing you…

Imagine a writer who never shares his writing and who represents fiction as non-fiction. Imagine a young man who wants to be a writer so much that he believes his own "lies." In Tobias Wolff's novel _Old School_, the author poses an ethical dilemma to the reader concerning issues of personal identity and honor. Taking place at a preparatory school in the 1960s, the unnamed narrator struggles with moral issues that surround the development of his authentic self. His desperate desire to win the school's literary contest to meet the famous author Ernest Hemingway results in the narrator's singular experience of plagiarizing another writer's short story. I repeated these words to myself as I looked in the mirror wondering how I could tell Yolanda, Martin, Dexter, and sweet little Bernice… Oh, Bernice! She had just turned five less than a month ago. How could I tell them their beloved father has been shot? How will they understand? Yolanda was the oldest and the wisest. When I asked Mrs. Hawkins if she had seen them she gave me this look that I will never forget. Her whole facial expression had changed from the looking like she was pleased to see me, to a look of sympathy, and sorrow. And she said to me, "You don't know?" " Know what?", I replied. And she told me that last night Desmond Bowden had a heart attack. All my friends were at the hospital with him and his parents.…

As I sat down reading a novel and watching my grandchildren, I observed how things have become so different from when I was their age. My mind started to wonder back to the General Strike of 1958. My palms started to sweat and I started to tremble as I recalled the events of that memorable day. I decided to relax and pick up the newspaper in which I saw that it was the anniversary of the trade unions. I was being reminded at all points of this life-changing event and it was starting to take place all over again in my mind.…
