How To Write A Reflective Essay About My Writing Process
Thinking back at myself as a writer at the beginning of the course and seeing where I am now, as far as how well I write and how my writing process has improved, has greatly improved. Writing used to be something I disliked doing with a passion. I had always had trouble getting my thoughts on to the page, and making what it is that I wanted to say sound good and flow well. I used to consider myself someone who would rather do a presentation on something rather than write an essay about it; but now, I would say I would be happy to do either.

I used to think that, when writing an essay, the first thing that had to be done was the intro. I thought that it had to be written in order, and trying to write an essay in that order would always leave me stuck at the beginning. Then I would take forever because I thought that if I didn’t start at the beginning then I couldn’t continue to the next paragraph. This was one of the reasons I would dread writing any kind of essay, no matter if I was interested in the

I would always get so caught up in all of this information that I found, that made me feel as if I were drowning in it with no place to put it. I was absolutely overwhelmed. The way I would write research papers used to be so disorganized that sometimes I did not even make an outline; I would just write as I go with nothing to guide me throughout. This would always lead to me being stressed, taking hours to complete the essay, or both. High school taught me a lot about the basics of writing and how to write a decent essay, but college has taught me how to write a great essay in a way that is organized and will keep stress levels down. I learned how truly important it is to write a detailed outline and how it can save hours worth of time in the long run, and I learned to use that outline to organize my research in a way that makes writing the actual essay extremely

Next I need to organize my ideas to explain how I arrived at my thesis. Finally, I need to proofread my writing to omit any grammar or writing mistakes. These steps can help my writing be more concise and improve over time.…

When one masters a certain practice, one becomes confident and nearly perfects the practice either because one had guidance or practiced continuously. I have not put myself in either one of those situations. To be honest, I write ‘put myself’ because I believe I had the choice of removing myself from classrooms to another better one; and the choice of being able to discipline myself to practice writing continuously.…

Throughout my writing experience I have always struggled with my body paragraphs. I tend to always have a strong introduction but once I began to go into my first body paragraph I lose my train of thought. One of my main issues is that I get to wordy. Which then leaves me with fragments. Lastly, which I’m sure most people have an issue with is basic grammar errors such as, spelling and placing commas. I feel that my writing has had a small progression. Through this class I have learned more writing techniques that have helped me as a writer.…

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

I have always had struggles and difficulties when it comes to writing. This is due to the fact that English is not my first language, and that I am still learning. I started to learn how to speak, and listen, and mainly write in English when I was in ninth grade. Writing has been the hardest to deal with it, because I have many spelling and mechanical errors and most importantly, how to organize an essay, but this changed when I took English 49 with Professor Lucero. In my first day of class, I was assigned to write an essay about my experience with writing. I was not completely sure on how to start my essay and how to organize it. When I was in High School, I did not write many essays, and the few I did, I have endless help. So, I just my…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

I remember freshman year I used to be very clueless and ignorant when it comes to the proper way of writing an essay. I didnt know the specific parts of essays which are the thesis, topic sentence, body paragraph, concrete details, conclusion etc. However, it amuses me how much my technique in writing has changed from ninth grade to eleventh grade I realized that I had so many issues with my introduction paragraph, thesis statement, and concrete detail or commentary.…

In the introductory paragraph to this essay about essays I will tell you that you don’t need an introductory paragraph, at least not of the 1) topic sentence 2) structural methodology 3) thesis statement varity that we were all taught in high school. What you do need is That Thing; maybe a question, a fear or a fury. It makes your blood boil. It’s all you can talk about when you sit down with your friends over a glass of wine or two or five, or maybe you can’t talk about it with anyone, just your own heart, alone with the impossible architecture of words. As Cheryl Strayed wrote in her introduction to The Best American Essays 2013, “Behind every good essay is an author with a savage desire to know more about what is already known.” I want to talk about essays. I don’t have a topic sentence or a thesis statement, just a savage desire to know.…

Through the year, I believe that I significantly changed as a writer, reader, and thinker. I think one of my biggest improvements as a writer was definitely my development and finding of my voice in argument and synthesis essays, especially since many of the essays I had to write in previous years were mostly objective analysis that did not require any voice in argument. As a person, I find myself to be frank and sarcastic, and I think I have incorporated some of that voice in my argument essays. This is true in the argument essay in my senior portfolio in which I argued against Singer’s stand that charity rescues impoverished countries. I incorporated many rhetorical questions in my argument essay which greatly helped to develop my voice. I also…
