How To Write An Internal Monologue
The type of text that I decided to produce is an internal monologue that has been captured over various stages of the Mother’s development and grief of which I would label as a transformation due to the Mother’s transparency and lack of emotion throughout the entire text since the book is primarily focussed on Hannah’s progression. I chose to use multiple moments in time so I could cover more than one emotion produced by the Mother to truly capture how she feels and how she progresses over time rather than a mainly singular emotion for the entire text which is how she is often portrayed in the original book. The purpose of this text is to provide a better understanding of how the Mother may feel and how she may grieve differently to other characters in the book. …show more content…
Because of the Mother’s portrayal in the book she appears to not care about her family which I believe is not the case. I wanted readers to understand that although she doesn’t show her emotions on the outside her mind is always thinking about the types of things that were in my monologue. My audience for this text would be similar to the book’s audience which is around year 11 and possibly slightly older due to the content and language used. I catered to this audience by using colloquial language where possible and using mild profanity to keep the audience captivated with the text due to it’s drama. The language I used was often colloquial which leads on from Zorn’s style since it was based in Australia. Some examples of Zorn’s colloquial style

My father had disappeared before my birth, and my mother never mentioned a single thing about him. Whenever she mentioned him, she did so out of spite and resentment. My mother and I lived happily together, singing and laughing at the things Grover’s Corners had for us. As I grew up, however, my mother changed from the sweet, kind person I had known to a cynical old woman who smoked cigarettes constantly. The mother I used to sing church hymns with had long disappeared, replaced by a vicious woman who considered her son as nothing more than a hindrance.…

Hannah has many factors within and around herself that have played into her success and ability to grow, such as you can tell that even though she cannot talk she has found ways to communicate what she wants and needs in order to improve her life every second of the day. She has learned that having a positive attitude will help her accomplish many more things, than having a negative one. Hannah is lucky enough to have such a good support system, like her grandma who takes her to Shoestring ranch as much as possible so that Hannah is able to ride, and even the team at the ranch in general. She has a very strong personality that radiates love and strength which you can tell empowers not only herself, but those around her, making them want to help her and be part of her success. These factors play into her being able to grow not only everyday, but especially everyday that she goes to ride at the ranch. She has overcome so much negativity in her life and you can tell by watching her and spending time with her, that she does not let this negativity effect her. With every negative thought that has gone her way, she has taken it and turned it into a challenge to overcome, which she seems to do every time. Her resilience is made up of a bundle of positivity of her own and from those around her that contributes to her making the best of every difficult situation and making something hard into a learning experience, rather than something that stops…

When we were younger we are taught what is acceptable and not acceptable in different situations. Our behavior is influenced by what society dictates is normal and appropriate. An example of this structured way of thinking is the behavior expected when we go to church. In church people are expected to quietly listen and contemplate what the priest, minister, or leader is saying. There is no running, there definitely is no making loud noises like yelling that disturbs your neighbor. We have been taught those actions are inappropriate for that kind of setting. Just like it would be inappropriate to use slang or shorten versions of words we use when texting to write a formal essay. In the story a “Mother’s Tongue”…

Evaluating Elizabeth’s metaphors, she described her family through compassion and sensitivity through her descriptive images of them. Through comparison of a spring flower, a wild flower and rock; she describes her sister. She has a never-ending friend shows her feeling of love for her. I could feel the closeness she h=as with her son, and the challenges starting with her daughter. Her metaphors about her family gave me feelings of happiness, love and appreciation. Her metaphors show emotion of a difficult time in her life with her sister being a support bra-bringing the family closer in a time of need. Elizabeth’s perception is what she has chosen to see in her life with her family. Her personal barriers are with her job where she tends to have death on her mind with dealing with it every day of job. Language uses points of comparism about mechanics of the world she loves; feelings are compassionate through the life of her family and job. Elizabeth’s creative thinking involved abstract thoughts of reality…

The song Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield reminds me of my high school graduation day. This song was playing in the room where we had to wait before we were allowed to go into the stadium. The ceremony started and when it was time to give speeches a lot of people came and gave speeches. Our class principal was the last one to give the speech, in her speech she read these lines from the song “I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined, I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned, Staring at the blank page before you,Open up the dirty window, Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find, Reaching for something in the distance, So close you can almost taste it, Release your inhibitions, Feel the rain on your skin, No one else can feel it for you, Only you can let it in, No one else, no one else, Can speak the words on your lips, Drench yourself in words unspoken, Live your life with arms wide open,Today is where your book begins, The rest is still unwritten.” Then she explained what the song means. The book symbolizes the life, “undefined” and “still unwritten“signifying future that is not known. “the pen in my hand” denoting the total control one has, or can have, on unfolding of future events even though they may appear to be be unplanned. “Staring at the blank page” signifying one facing a mental block, a hopeless dilemma or an indecisive uncontrollable situation. “Open up the dirty window“ metaphorically represents confronting and stepping out of or getting rid of past unpleasant memories. “Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find” symbolizes new positive thoughts highlighting yet unexplored possibilities that can be always around. “Feel the rain on your skin” can be interpreted as experiencing any and every event in life as fully as possible, with total passion - because “No one else can feel it for you. Only you can let it in.” “Live your life with arms wide open. Today is…

Today I was talking to Charlie, he said something that made me so sad. These two men named Joe and Frank make fun of Charlie and he actually thinks they are his “friends”! I can't believe that someone could be that sick. If they actually got to know him they would know that he is sweet and caring and lovable. The other day Joe and Frank invited Charlie to meet up at the local bar, Muggsy’s. They told Charlie to buy newspaper and a coffee from them, when he came back they was no one there. Joe and Frank ditched him! How rude! Even worst that ditching him, they beat him up till’ he was black n blue. Why would someone do that. Why would someone treat him like an unwanted animal.…

I will not lie and say I did not know that what I was doing was wrong from the very beginning. I did know, but simply feared what the truth would cause. Doing otherwise after so long is wasting energy on an unfixable problem; however the guilt has overpowered all that is in existence within me. I was fearful, afraid and a coward. Something I should have rejected for the justice of Mary Ann, Annie, Elizabeth, Catherine and Mary Jane. Instead, I watched humanity fail its duty of unity and peace. They deserved justice, these prostitutes. Yes prostitutes they all were, but they too were fearful and afraid as I had been. But never cowards. Unlike myself, these prostitutes did not lack courage and bravery. They did not fear the burdening pain as I did. Yet the truth remains that I did not want to reveal the imposters that existed in our country. I did not want these murders to determine the activities of my beloved people...…

The happy child lifted few feet off the ground by the supporting arms of his parents. Madness started to take over. Tears dropped and words of scorned yelled in the privacy of our house. Desperate to find answers yet troubled to find the right words. The battle for air behind my trapped voice. Selfish reasons turned into rebellious acts, hiding my desperation and fear. What was I thinking? I caused emotional turmoil for us all. My questions continued until seventh grade. A trip back to Oklahoma for the first time in seven years. It's been nine years since I laid eyes on my mother. Oh, how much she has changed. Her energetic and youthful personality has become full of stress and the desire to gather her life together. Five years since I've seen grandfather. I will never forget his face full of tears and his arms shaking as they tightly wrap around my body. The grandfather who was once strong enough to carry me is now weak to the legs. A skinny silver cane supports his weight as he wobbled over. Two faces that I have not seen before are now to be called as my half-sisters. It was a trip of new bonds that shall be created and learning the truth behind the…
