A little island country surrounded by turquoise water, Mauritius is an obvious choice for trying out all kinds of water sports. Add to this combination the trade winds and tropical climate and you will soon see why more and more windsurfers, kitesurfers and surfers come to Mauritius.
Kitesurfing in Mauritius Kitesurfing in Mauritius is a fantastic experience; the island is known the world over for its perfect conditions for kitesurfing. In Mauritius, this sport can be practiced year round thanks to the island’s tropical climate. From January to December, the Mauritian weather allows both old hands and beginners to ride the waves in ideal conditions. The fearless sometimes hop over to Rodrigues Island, another of the Mascarene Islands, where the wind is sometimes really strong. There are around ten kitesurfing centres in Mauritius; they are often attached to hotels although some are open to non-residents. Instructors are able to award IKO certificates at the end of a course of lessons so your level can be considered for any subsequent kitesurfing course, in Mauritius or elsewhere. There are some very good kitesurfing academies in Mauritius: the Sinbad kite school at Cap Malheureux, Kite2fly at Belle Mare, Skyrider or Xkiting in Morne, to name but a few.
