Essay Title: Outline what, in your opinion, was the most significant development in management thought within the discipline of personnel/Human Resources Management over the proceeding two centuries. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this development from both an employer and employee perspective.

In my essay I will be discussing ‘The Industrial Revolution’ (A.D. 1763-1871) as the most significant development in management thought within the discipline of Human Resource Management over the past two centuries. The Industrial Revolution was key to this development and improved HRM in many beneficial ways for both management and also employer’s and employee’s.
In context of Human Resource Management, ‘The Industrial Revolution’ was a key ingredient in the development of management. This Revolution began towards the middle of the 18th century. During this process, Power, plant and people in new and upcoming Factory-based production units started to overpass the major sources of employment. Rather than agriculture work and cottage-based industry. This new employment sequence vastly led to population alteration. Workers gradually received higher wages in the factories. Employees were increasingly gaining more income and this was well received by all level of employee’s. Organization also became a key element of the working life. In this Revolution a hierarchy of managers formed, and the communicative distant between workers and managers gradually increased as a result. During the Revolution child labor was a common happening. Britain embraced its first effective factories legislation in 1833. This restricted the working hours children could work in factories. There were more faint evils also. In Britain and America, employees were often given vouchers rather than wages, to be used in the ‘company store’. This lasted for many
